Dynamical phase transitions for active Brownian particles

(Physique Statistique)

Sommaire:

I will describe fluctuations in systems of active particles. In particular, we consider the active work, which measures how far the local self-forcing of active particles translates into real motion. The probability distribution of the time-averaged active work has a characteristic form, which is related to the presence of two dynamical phase transitions. One transition involves phase separation and the other involves collective motion where rotational symmetry is broken and all particles move in the same direction. These results can be used to understand instabilities of the system in the face of particular kinds of "control forces'.
