Résumé: Due to their 1-Dimensional character semi-conducting carbon nanotubes are fascinating light sources. They radiate in the telecommunication-wavelengths range with well-defined exciton peaks even at the temperature room. Unfortunately they are not bright sources because of a small quantum yield. Increasing the radiative rate is necessary to make a single carbon-nanotube an attractive single-photons source at the telecom wavelengths. Such an increase may be realized by engineering the electromagnetic environment that leads to the well-known Purcell effect. In this talk we present our strategies to increase the luminescence rate of single carbon-nanotubes with the help of plasmonic antennas. We report an exaltation of the luminescence by a factor 200.

Résumé: The ray dynamics in a photonic crystal was investigated. Chaos occurs for perfectly periodic crystals, the rays dynamics being very sensitive to the initial conditions. Depending on the filling factor, the ray dynamics can exhibit stable paths near (fully) chaotic motion. The degree of chaoticity is quantified through the computation of Lyapunov exponents. As a result, the more diluted is the geometry, the more chaotic is the dynamic. Therefore, despite the perfect periodicity of the geometry, light transport is a diffusive process which can be tuned from normal diffusion (brownian motion) to anomalous diffusion because of the existence of L ́evy flights.

Multi-excitonic effects in carbon nanotubes
Auteur(s): Colombier L., Rousseau E., Lauret Jean-sébastien, Voisin Christophe, Cassabois G.
Conférence invité: GDRi Nanotubes Graphene Annual Meeting 2014 (Strasbourg, FR, 2014-09-23)
Résumé: Single-walled carbon nanotubes are one-dimensional nanostructures where the Coulomb interactions between charge carriers are strongly enhanced compared to systems of higher dimensionality. This results in an electron-hole bound state -the so-called exciton- with a binding energy of the order of one third of the bandgap, which controls the SWNTs optical properties. I will review the importance of the exciton-exciton interactions in SWNTs in the light of the exciton recombination dynamics, the excitonic collision broadening, and the biexciton.

Résumé: A periodic layer of resonant scatterers is considered in the dipolar approximation. An asymptotic expression for the field diffracted is given in terms of an impedance operator. It is shown that surface Bloch modes appear as a collective effect due to the resonances of the scatterers.
