Glasses (aka amorphous solids) exhibit various anomalies when compared with crystals (aka ordered solids): they display enhanced transport, activated slow dynamics across energy barriers, excess vibrational modes with respect to Debye’s theory (the so-called Boson Peak), and respond drastically to very small mechanical deformations. In this work, we identify the common, universal origin to these anomalies in a realistic, three-dimensional model of glasses. We show that in packed hard spheres, vibrations become highly correlated in space and time at a sharply defined threshold, which we call "Gardner threshold".  This work is deeply related with the last developments in the analytical theory of glasses, where the glass problem has been finally solved exactly in the artificial limit of infinite spatial dimensions. The analytical solution predicts the existence of a genuine phase transition (a Gardner phase transition) within the glass, separating the glass and the jamming transitions. In this work we not only establish the relevance of the (remanent of the) Gardner transition for real glasses, but also characterize it using well-defined observables, including time-dependent quantities and spatial correlations, that should be experimentally measurable.

Free standing artificial lipid bilayer is essential for studying for membrane transport, fusion, and ion channels. Preparation of such system is technically changeling to mimic native environment. On the other hand, suspended lipid bilayers can provide in vivo like environment for the membrane proteins and lipids by having fluids on both sides. We present a simple methodology for making suspended lipid bilayers on a silicon microarray that can be used for single-molecule with excellent lateral protein mobility and long term stability. We demonstrate the feasibility of such an approach on SNARE mediate membrane fusion process and content mixing assays.

Lorsqu'un obstacle a des dimensions caractéristiques de l'ordre de grandeur de la longueur d'onde du champ incident, on dit que l'on est dans le domaine de résonance. Par résonnant, nous entendons que le champ diffracté peut subir des transformations très importantes pour une petite modification du champ incident. Plus précisément, le mot résonnant fait référence à ce qu'il est convenu d'appeler un problème spectral : autrement dit, chercher des fréquences propres et des vecteurs propres d'un opérateur, l'opérateur de Maxwell, en l'occurrence. Mais autant ce problème est bien connu et étudié (relation de fermeture), lorsque l'on a affaire à une cavité (problème borné avec conditions aux limites) autant ce problème est délicat lorsqu'il s'agit d'un problème non borné. Ainsi les fréquences du système ouvert ne peuvent-elles être réelles. Si tel était le cas, qu'adviendrait-il, si l'on illuminait ledit obstacle avec la fréquence réelle trouvée ? Pourtant, lorsque l'obstacle est sans pertes par effet Joule (permittivité hermitienne), l'opérateur de Maxwell a toutes les apparences d'un opérateur auto-adjoint (formellement auto-adjoint). La seule échappatoire à ce paradoxe est de considérer des vecteurs propres d'énergie infinie (modes quasi-normaux ou quasi- modes). Il devient alors difficile de maîtriser de tels « monstres ». Et c'est là que la magie d'une transformation géométrique complexe ad hoc opère afin de dompter la fougue de pareils champs. Non content, alors, de trouver dans une zone du plan complexe choisie a priori toutes les fréquences complexes, il sera alors possible de recomposer un champ diffracté, de calculer des LDOS, les pertes des cavités de Haroche, d'espérer calculer le champ rayonné par une particule chargée qui frôle un objet dispersif et/ou absorbant.... Enfin, cette méthodologie étant générale, elle pourra être appliquée à d'autres domaines de la Physique où interviennent la notion d'onde...

In this talk, I discuss our recent work on the Higgs-Yukawa model, as relevant to BSM physics, using lattice simulations and the approach of the constraint effective potential. After an introduction to the lattice method for such calculations, without going into numerical details, I concentrate on the inclusion of a dimension-six operator as the prototype of new physics. In particular, I discuss the effect of such an operator on the Higgs boson mass. Exploratory result for finite-temperature phase transition will also be shown.

Correlation functions of local gauge-invariant operators are natural observables in any conformal quantum field theory. In N=4 SYM a particular role is played by the multipoint supercorrelators of the stress-tensor multiplet. Their chiral truncation in the light-cone limit coincides with the scattering superamplitudes. We propose a novel approach to calculating such correlators based on reformulation of the theory in Lorentz harmonic chiral superspace which introduces an infinite number of auxiliary higher-spin fields and pure gauges. This technique enables us to obtain the integrands of all such supercorrelators, including the non-chiral sector, at any loop order.

We study the metal-insulator transition in a narrow impurity band with small degree of disorder. The critical concentration is shown to be lower than predicted by the Mott-Anderson criterion. As a result, a band of delocalized states appears in the middle of the impurity band. However, the Fermi level lies below the band of delocalized states. Thus, at low temperatures the transport is due to activation from the Fermi level.  The theory is in agreement with experimental data for AlGaAs/GaAs quantum wells.
We also explain the breakdown behavior observed experimentally. The concept of the virtual Anderson transition allows to explain ferromagnetism observed in AlGaAs/GaAs structures, doped with Mn at very low concentrations.
